Why does my work block certain websites?

Because they want you to spend more time working, not surfing myspace and watching funny videos youtube all day long!

Your employer will usually hire or pay for the services of a network admin which will block the sites, based on the IP (internet protocol). A proxy will allow you to bypass this “block” and still load the site. Now, what happens when your work blocks a proxy site? You find another one! :-)

New proxy sites are constantly going up. A proxy in the eyes of your boss is like weeds that just never stop growing back. Network admins will often ban or block proxy websites but they can never keep up, especially not when hundreds of new proxy sites surface every hour.

How do I view a blocked site from work?

Pretty simple, find yourself a free proxy. All you need to do is enter the URL of the site you are trying to load on the proxy website and it should unblock you. The site will load a little faster, but that’s only because the proxy is downloading the content and sending it back to you.

Some proxies might not always work for you, but there’s quite an abundance of proxies so all you need to do is try a couple.
